Tales of An Amateur Hair Stylist!

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

“But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.” Jeremiah 18:4

Every now and again I get into this mindset that I can creatively, and not to mention cheaply, be my own hairstylist. So, sometime ago, I trimmed my hair twice, by myself, in the span of about 1-2 weeks. Friends, I ended up with a mushroom on my head… think early 90’s rap group Salt-N-Pepa or Queen Latifah. It just wasn’t a good look for me!

I had no choice but to call my stylist and ask him to fix it. Within a few snips of his trusty scissors my hair was back to being beautiful.

Of course, this is true in my spiritual life as well; I try to give myself a spiritual “haircut” when I find something about me that I think needs to be fixed. AND IT ALWAYS TURNS INTO A DISASTER! And you guessed it, I inevitably have to call on God and His uber cool stylist skills to fix up my mess ups.

I learned an important lesson that day though, taking the easy and cheap way out sometimes makes things worse. I need to trust the experts because they have an eye for beauty AND they’ve been trained to cut hair.

Dear God, beauty is in the eye of the Creator. Help us to see ourselves as you see us that we may call on you when we think something is wrong in us, instead of trying to fix us ourselves. Amen

Love Always,

Coach Jennifer
